Griezmann Celebration one of his goal

France came from behind to defeat Republic of Ireland who scored first through a penalty kick after Shane Long was fowled from the box with Robbie Brady converting the penalty in the second minute of the game.

However the first half of the game ended in favour of Ireland but Antoine Griezmann equalized in the 58th minute for France through Sagnal cross as he headed the ball pass the Ireland goal keeper.

The Republic of Ireland however ended up with 10 men after Shane Duff was sent off after he brought Griezmann down, he was the last man.

France eventually won the man with 2-1 thanks to Antoine Griezmann two goals, they will now wait for the match between England and Iceland to decide their next opponent.

Adil Rami and N'Golo Kante will miss their quarter final game through suspension after picking up second yellow each in the ongoing Euro 2016.

Shane Long before the match said the side are not motivated for "renenge", before now the side has only met in 2009 in the World Cup qualifier whe Thiery Henry scored a controversial goal to send them through. 

This is the first time Republic of Ireland is playing in the knockout stage in the European Championship.
