Kentucky church knifeman stabs worshippers during morning Sunday service

A stabbing during a church service in Kentucky has left at least one person badly injured as heavily armed police seal off the area.

A police swat team and helicopter were involved in the operation to detain the person responsible for the fatal knifing.

A witness said the suspect was held down quickly by people in Hillvue Heights Church before cops arrived at the scene.

There are reports of the scene being blood spattered and panic amongst worshippers.

One of the Associate Pastors is believed to have tackled the person with the knife.

We are working to gather more information at this time, and will continue to update the story as more information becomes available.

It is currently unclear what the motivation behind the stabbing is, but there is no suggestion at present that it was terror related.

It comes after the racially-charged Charleston Church massacre when killer Dylann Roof, a white supremacist, carried out a bloody attack at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Alabama.

The 21-year-old killed six women and three men after joining a prayer group at the historic church.
