Another British tourist stabbed to death in Ayia Napa, Cyprus in street attack at popular resort

George Low, 22, from Dartford, was attacked with a friend in the early hours of this morning

This is the first picture of a young British tourist stabbed to death during a brutal attack in Ayia Napa this morning.

George Low, 22, from Dartford, was attacked at 3.30am in the popular Cyprus coastal town.

His friend was also stabbed but is expected to make a full recovery.

Deputy police chief for Famagusta, Giorgos Economou said it appeared the victims had been involved in an argument earlier in the evening with the attackers.

He said: "Police are trying through closed-circuit cameras installed in area to identify the perpetrators.

"The two victims are aged 22, British, and working in Cyprus. From evidence obtained by the police so far, the two men who attacked the Britons are also foreigners, but so far we do not know their nationality.

Tributes have now been paid the Mr Low on social media sites.

Friend Jason Woods wrote on Facebook: "Words can't describe what you meant to me.

"I was lucky to have you as a brother and I am truly heartbroken by this tragedy!!

"Just looking back at the first time we met and I was lucky enough to meet one of the best guys in my life. Love you so much. RIP George Low."

Another friend, Luke Hepworth, added: “I can’t actually believe this, you was such a laugh mate always brought smiles to people’s faces. A true gentleman, you will never be forgotten.”

Brad Gresham said he was a “napa cult hero” and added: “Only one gorgeous George”.

The Foreign Office said it is providing support to his family.

Mr Low and his friend were taken by ambulance to hospital.

Cyprus Police said the two tourists were walking on Grigori Afxentiou Street when they were attacked by two other men with a knife who then ran off.

The victim was stabbed in the neck, severing his carotid artery.

His friend, also 22, was stabbed in the back.

The tourists were taken by ambulance to a private clinic in Paralimni where doctors confirmed that one had died.

The second victim sustained four stab wounds to his back and held for treatment and was kept in for treatment.

His injuries are not life threatening, police said.
