    Nigerians will soon be sitting in their home or offices applying for passport, immigration boss gives details

    In the effort to reducing the number of applicant visiting the immigration offices all over the nation for passport applications, the Nigeria immigration service has taken a bold step in reducing it by deploying cutting edge technology.

    A statement released by Ekpedeme King, spokesman of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Controller general (CG) of Immigration Muhammed Babandede, said the immigration service is working towards the overhauling of the process in applying for passports by providing cutting edge technology regarding to the bureaucratic bottlenecks.

    "The spokesman of the Nigeria immigration service (NIS) made the announcement while addressing the officers of the service at the immigration headquarters in Abuja, he also said that the channels already in existence will be followed when treating applications but in electronic ways.

    "In effort in making sure the project is a success the (CGI) is to establish an electronic mail desk in his office that will be connected to the rest of the offices, while a superintendent has already be appointed that will be in charge of the mail desk.      

    "For the work load not to be much for the CGI, he has already apply a strategy of division of labour of the responsibilities to his deputies and  the assistance respectively in order to facilitate the processing of the passports.

    "The project will not only involve the service officers in Abuja but all the state government of the federation will provide controllers as well as commissioners, and aides of governors for verification. The eligibility of the applicants will be confirmed by the controllers to the service headquarters. For thE process is to facilitate the issuance of official and service passports as the approval would have undergone approval before the applicants visit the various offices for bio-metric data  collections.

    The controller general went further to say, his effort is to reform the process down to the local government of every state in the country in promoting and ease business transaction, because when foreigners trade with Nigeria, that they can equally provide business for the Nigeria youths. Two months he (CGI) said he has targeted in reforming the passport department.
