Syria rebels burning ISIS flag
The stronghold of the Islamic terrorists in Syria is being cracked down by rebels and if finally the rebels are able to wipe out ISIS from their stronghold, it will bring peace and lesser fear to the people of Iraq. Report says if al Bab is defeated it will be a painful blow to the Islamic terrorists and that can trigger a final battle in the capital of Iraq, Raqqa, which is closed to the village of Dabiq fabled in Islamic mythology, Aleppo and territory it controls close to Raqqa.
ISIS is expected
to launch a strong defence of the city as defeat there would leave Raqqa
vulnerable to a ground offensive from the west.
Turkish
President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday that rebel groups backed by
Ankara were a little over a mile away from al Bab and were expected to
take it quickly despite resistance from militants holed up inside the
city.
Yesterday the rebels said they had taken
Qabasin, northeast of al Bab, setting the stage for an assault on the
last urban stronghold of ISIS in the northern Aleppo countryside.
Al Bab is of particular strategic importance to Turkey because Kurdish militias have also been attempting to seize it.
In October Dabiq was finally recaptured by Turkish-backed Syrian rebel forces after an intense battle lasting weeks.
Though
the stronghold is not strategically important, it is significant
because of an ancient Islamic prophecy which names Dabiq as the site of a
showdown between Muslim and Christian armies.
ISIS prophecy
claims an apocalyptic battle will erupt in a field outside Dabiq, which
in 2004 recorded a population of just 3,000 people.
Jihadists
believe the Prophet Mohammed remarked that "the last hour will not
come" until an army vanquishes the Romans at "Dabiq or Al-A'maq".
ISIS claims in
its propaganda a field outside the tiny town will witness a "major
apocalyptic showdown with the armies of the infidel".
According to the prophecy, one third of the Islamist fighters will flee the town while another third will be killed.
But the group believes the remaining third will survive the battle and triumph against the Western forces.
