Binali Yildirim, the prime minister of Turkey made U-turn to remove child rape bill that sees men go free on teenage girls being married away and forcing themselves on them.

After the street protest went viral, following Turkish society condemnation, also in abroad, the child rape bill was sent back to the Turkish parliament for amendment.

Viewers around the world criticized the bill, saying it will legitimized statutory rape and encourage child marriage in the country.

Even the United Nations has sent a message to the Turkish government not to approve the bill, that it will encourage child marriage and lead to the difficulty of fighting rape cases in the country.

But the government says the main aim is to exonerate men imprisoned for marrying an underage girl apparently with her or her family's consent.

The draft law will now be returned to a commission which will take into account the views of the opposition and civil society, Mr Yildirim said.

This would allow for "broad consensus" and to "give time for the opposition parties to develop their proposals".
