It was a shocking moment as a Turkish man in Istanbul kicked a nurse in the head because she was wearing a short, the Muslim man claimed it was Islamic law direction.

Aysegul Terzi was assaulted on a bus after the man claimed Islamic law demanded he attack the young woman.

Abdullah Cakiroglu confessed to the attack following his arrest, but the thug was incredibly freed by prosecutors when he said he was following Islamic law by assaulting the woman.

However as shocking footage the 23-year-old girl being brutally kicked in the face emerged he was again detained by police last week.

Following his first release, the thug said: "She was dressed against my traditions.

"Friends, everything is under control. Everything happened according to Islamic law."

And during his prosecutor’s testimony, Cakirogu reportedly said: "I beat people whose outfits I do not like. The state should punish those who dress like this."

Cakiroglu has now been freed from police custody again and it has triggered outrage from secular and women's rights groups.

Chanting “don't interfere with my shorts!” the protesters said they were showing solidarity with Ms Terzi after the horrific attack.

Saadet Yesil, one of the outraged demonstrators, said everyone had a right to dress as they saw fit.

The 44-year-old accountant said: “Just as we don't interfere with those in headscarves or gentlemen in turbans, we expect they extend us the same courtesy.”

There was also a protest in Ankara.

Speaking out about her ordeal, Ms Terzi said: "He told the prosecutors that he likes to beat people who he decides do not dress appropriately, and as a result they released him.

"I don't have any words to describe what I think about this, there is nothing that I can say.

"Where is the justice? Do I need to get killed?"

It has been reported the man might be suffering from mental issues but there was no official statement from prosecutors.
