Republic of Ireland has been advised to quit the EU, saying it will help boost their economy

Republic of Ireland advised to leave the EU
The Republic of Ireland have been urged to quit the EU membership just as UK has done, that it will be in their best interest, says UKIP MEP.

In a debate Irish were told: "Surely the Irish Republic is making the money out of their differential tax rates, would it not be in the best interests of the Irish Republic to join Great Britain in their Brexit with Irexit"
    Marian Harkin
The suggestion was swiftly turned downy Irish MEP Marian Harkin, of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.

"I think one of the reasons that the Irish economy is doing as well as it is at the moment is because those who invest in it know that we have 500 million customers that we can sell our goods to.

"And those 500million customers reside in the EU and I think that’s the reason most Irish people, indeed a majority in Northern Ireland – when they had an opportunity to vote, voted to remain in the EU."

In the debate Marian claimed single market access was key to the country’s economic success.

Marian added: "The EU has its challenges, I’ve articulated some of them here tonight, but I believe for my country, access to that single market will help to drive our economic success and I would not agree with Irexit."

It will be recall in 2008 Ireland held a referendum on the ratification of the Treaty of Lisbon which was rejected.

However, following the vote changes were made by the European Council and the Irish Government and a second vote was held.

In October 2009 the treaty was ratified after a 67 per cent vote in favour.

The "Irexit" call comes after Nigel Farage vowed to help Ireland leave the EU.

He told Irish radio station Today FM: "If I was asked by an Irish Eurosceptic party to come and help them, I'd be there like a shot.

"Indeed this autumn I am travelling around many other European countries helping other European movements that want the same things we want."
