Suspect identified as 32-year-old Akram Jouden from Queens who produced an 11-inch cleaver in front of police
A man wielding an 11-inch meat cleaver was shot at least FIFTEEN times by police in New York.
As at the moment filling this report, the suspect is currently in a critical condition awaiting surgery, was being pursued by a number of officers on foot after producing the weapon from his waistband at around 5pm local time.

NYPD said in a report that "after a short chase, the suspect jumped onto a marked police car".
Officers in pursuit then opened fire.

In shocking footage posted online, a flurry of gunshots can be heard ringing out in the downtown street which was filled with people leaving work.
The detective is said to be in a serious condition.
Two Police officers on standby
Two other officers suffered non life-threatening injuries.
According to local reports, Jouden has been arrested 15 times previously, most recently for possessing a weapon near a synagogue.

New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton tweeted: "I commend our officers for their bravery tonight in the incident near Penn Station.
"Keep them in your thoughts as they recover."
