Sergio Aguero's appeal against his FA violent conduct charge has failed meaning he will miss the Manchester derby.

City's star striker will serve an immediate three-match ban, starting with next Saturday's showdown with arch rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford.

An FA statement read: "Sergio Aguero will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after an FA charge of violent conduct against him was found proven.

    The footage of the incident
"The Manchester City forward was involved in a 76 minute incident with West Ham United’s Winston Reid on Sunday (28 August 2016), which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

"The club denied the charge and submitted further that if it was to be found proven, the standard punishment would be clearly excessive.

"On finding the charge proven at a hearing today [Friday 2 September 2016], an Independent Regulatory Commission went on to reject the club’s further claim to decrease the three-match ban."

Aguero was hit with the charge after he struck West Ham defender Winston Reid in the throat with his left arm during City's 3-1 win last weekend.

Referee Andre Marriner did not see the 76th-minute incident, leaving the Football Association free to take retrospective action after reviewing footage of the incident.

Aguero chose to contest the charge, but an independent three-man regulatory panel upheld the charge after looking at written submissions and reviewing video evidence.

Argentina striker Aguero, who is out of his country's two 2018 World Cup qualifiers this month with a calf injury, will also miss a Premier League game against Bournemouth and a League Cup tie away to Swansea.
