ISIS second-in-command Muhammad al-Adnani also known as the their spokesperson is reportedly killed in Syria drone strike

Islamic State's second in command Abu Mohammad al-Adnani has been killed in Syria.

He was widely tipped to be the next leader of the terror group after repeatedly calling for attacks on the West.

Al-Adnani, who had a $5 million US government bounty on his head, was one of the last three alive of the 43 founders of ISIS, according to reports.

He was also the head of Emni the secret service of ISIS responsible for plotting atrocities against the West.

The terror group's propaganda unit Amaq said in a statement: "Shaykh Abu Muhammad al-Adnani, the spokesman of the Islamic State, was martyred while surveying the operations to repel the military campaigns against Aleppo."

In his final speech al-Adnani urged ISIS supporters to launch attacks in Europe and the US during Ramadan.

He said: "Ramadan, the month of conquest and jihad. Get prepared, be ready to make it a month of calamity everywhere for the non-believers."

Terror analyst Rita Katz of the SITE Intelligence Group described his death as a "major blow" to ISIS.

She tweeted: “Adnani's death is a major blow for ISIS – especially after the death of high-ranking military leader Omar Shishani.

“When calling for lone wolf attacks in West, ISIS fighters/supporters quote Adnani more than any other individual.

“That said, recent ISIS-inspired attacks reflect his speeches, wherein he called to kill whoever and with whatever in the West.

“Adnani born in Idlib. Pledged to Zarqawi in Iraq before being jailed for 6 yrs. Pledged to current ISIS leader Baghdadi after release.

“After pledge to Baghdadi, Adnani was sent to Syria w others, including current JFS leader Julani, to establish presence there.”

It comes just weeks after the ISIS leader in Afghanistan and Pakistan was killed by a US drone.

Hafiz Saeed Khan, along with his senior lieutenants, was blown up in an air strike on July 26.

Afghan Ambassador Omar Zakhilwal said: "I can confirm that ISIS Khurasan leader Hafiz Saeed Khan along with his senior commanders and fighters died in a drone strike on July 26 in Kot district of Afghanistan's Nangharhar province."
