The 27th Ordinary Session of the Africa Union Assembly of Heads of State and Government was held on 17th July 2016, at the Kigali Convention Centre (KCC), Rwanda, with a strong call fro unity and love for the continent.
The opening ceremony was marked by a symbolic act of Pan-Africanism with lunch of the African Union (AU) passport aimed at facilitating the free movement of people on the continent.
Chairperson of the AU, Mr Idriss Derby Itno, who is the President of Republic of Chad and the Rwandan President, Paul Kigame were the first people to had received the diplomatic passport by the AU Chairperson of the Commission, His Excellency Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.
The new look of AU passport
President Idriss Derby in his words after receiving the diplomatic passport that will allow all citizens of AU free movement said: "I feel deeply proud a true son of Africa after receiving this passport".
However he also stressed out the importance of fast tracking integration on the continent to achieve socio-economic growth for the well-being of the African citizens.
The African Union Summit took place in Kigali as all the Heads of State of the AU were present, including African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, the Deputy Chairperson, the Palestine President, the AU Commissioners, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Members of the permanent Representative Committee (PRC), officials of the AUC, Heads of AU Organs, Media and other invited dignitaries.
