According to AFP reports, President Yahya Jammeh has banned child marriages across Gambia, he made the announcement as saying: "Anyone who marries a girl under 18 years will spend 20 years in jail. The girl's parent would spend 21 years in jail and anyone who knows about it and fails to report the matter to the authorities would spend 10 years in jail".
The president did not stop there but also he threatened to jail the Imam that will officiate such child marriage ceremony, he quickly urged the legislation to confirm the ban later in the month.
