Gareth Southgate
Gareth Southgate, the interim boss of England football team said he is going to take a "couple of days to go and sleep" after England was held to a goalless draw by lowly rated Slovenia compared to England caliber of players but praised spectacular performance of Joe Hart who was the saviour in Lljubljana.
Joe Hart's spectacular save as Rose watches
I inherited "a mess" Gareth claimed after Manchester City's loanee goalkeeper Joe Hart made brilliant saves last night to give England a vital point, last night's game seem to be the first major test for the interim coach and Hart saved it for him. After the game in an interview, Gareth said: "We wanted six points but we have taken over a mess and had to steady the ship. We are on track. I am going to have a couple of days to go and sleep.
"We owe our goalkeeper for an outstanding performance. He showed the level he’s capable of. He was top, top class.
"Would I have been happy with a point before the game? No. But it’s a very important point in the context of qualifying from the group."
Joe Hart was the saviour of the night for England after making four spectacular saves including an incredible double stop to deny Slovenia midfielder Jasmin Kurtic.
Jasmin Kurtic said: "I saw the ball inside the net! Then, when I saw he’d saved it I was impressed. But we know that Joe Hart is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and that’s normal that he can make saves like that."
Southgate added: "I had a long chat with Joe earlier in the week to ask him what he looks like at his best. He started with ‘calm and composed’. He’s been that in the two matches we’ve had.
"His decision making has been excellent, the use of the ball with his feet has been very good and two or three of his saves were absolutely outstanding tonight.”
Hart said: "My body is in pieces. I don’t know what happened for the save but I landed on the frame of the goal. I don’t think I’ll be able to get up in the morning.
"It was my best game for a while. I was asked to do quite a bit but that was down to a few errors by us. We are a young team and we will get better."
Despite the draw England still remain top of Group F with 7 points, England's next match is against Scotland at Wembley on November 11th 2016.
