Maria Sharapova has been out of the game since failing drug test, the five-time grand slam champion will be back on April 26 2017 after her ban was cut to 15 months

Despite the reduction of her ban, Sharapova claimed that the governing body of the game wanted her sentence to be four years.

The former world No.1 tested positive for meldonium earlier this year but saw her suspension slashed when the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced it from two years to 15 months on Tuesday.

Sharapova 29 said: "The International Tennis Federation (ITF) wanted to ban me for four years.

"I went through the hearing in front of an arbitration chosen by the ITF.

"I had the hearing knowing the people I was speaking to were chosen by the people I was in a fight with. That’s not neutral; CAS is neutral.

"I'm starting to think that (they wanted to make an example of me).

"I was fighting an organisation that wanted to ban me for four years."

Five-time grand slam champion Sharapova also claimed she was stunned by the support she received.

"During this process I realised how impactful my career has been for millions of people," she told interviewer Charlie Rose.

"The amount of people that have stopped me in the last seven months is more than I've received in my life."
