    Senegalese Karim Wade Released From Prison

    The convict is a former Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade's son and was a minister during his father's administration and has been released from prison after he was charged for corruption.

    Immediately after his release from prison, he flew to Qatar after President Macky Sall's decreeearly Friday according to local media.

    His sentence was suppose to last for six years and was also fined $240 million for illegally accumulating at least $200 million while he was a minister during his father's tenure as a President of Senegal for twelve years.

    According to court in charge of Wade's case, it said he has hidden funds in the British Virgin Island and Panama.

    The Presidential pardon received by Wade cancels the decisions of court to jail him and as well as the payment not being covered by the presidential pardon, said the press release by the presidency.

    Wade's father being the president as at the time he was minister, made him one of the senior ministers and was in charge of major infrastructures and energy projects

    The fighting of corruption by President Sall since 2012 led to the arrest of Wade, the former minister.

    However Wade denied every charges as well as the supporters saying the charges against him is a political move targeted on him to discredit him.

    Even Senegalese Democratic Party which is a strong opposition party chosed Wade to represent the party in 2019 presidential election even while he was in jail.

    But with the issue of corruption and what has happened since then, it is unclear if he is still eligible to run for the seat of president come 2019.
